Mona Vanderwaal is one of those ambivalent PLL characters; you don’t know whether to love her or hate her. On one hand, she comes off as a fun gal, but on the other hand, she can be awfully rude! Aria, Spencer and Emily question why Hanna is friends with Mona, but Hanna has to think for herself. Here are some pros and cons to help Hannakins decide whether Mona is friend or foe:
PROS
1. At the start of their friendship, Mona helped Hanna make a mega transformation from dork to queen. They did it together!
2. Mona compliments Hanna frequently and consults her for advice on everything from fashion to party details. She values Hanna’s opinion.
3. Mona visits Hanna in the hospital in PLL Book 4, Unbelievable and appears genuinely upset.
CONS
1. As Hanna’s official BFF, Mona gets annoyed when Hanna hangs out with the other Liars–she seems a little jealous of Hanna’s other friends.
2. Mona officially uninvites Hanna to her birthday party in PLL Book 3, Perfect over an honest mistake.
3. When Hanna does show up to Mona’s party (thinking that Mona had invited her), instead of forgiving her bestie, Mona calls her a “whale.”
