The main focus of the Pretty Little Liars TV series may be crazy A and the Liars’ darkest secrets —but there’s no denying that the show is also about friendship, relationships and staying true to one’s self. In particular, Emily Fields (played by the wonderful Shay Mitchell) has been a glowing emblem of strength, growth, and individuality. And that is why the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has nominated Pretty Little Liars (for the second year in a row) in the category of Outstanding TV Drama!
While coming to terms with her sexual identity, Emily’s had to deal with various obstacles …and she’s overcome it all. From enduring a teammate’s homophobic comments to seeking parental approval (specifically her mom, Pam), Em’s constantly risen above it all with grace and dignity. Overall, the honest and non-sensationalized portrayal of her coming journey has been touching, engaging, and downright inspirational.
Congratulations to Pretty Little Liars on this commendable and well-deserved nomination!
