*Spoiler alert: Please do not read any further until you have watched the Pretty Little Liars Season 3 Halloween special entitled “This Is A Dark Ride.”
On Pretty Little Liars Halloween, everyone boarded the A Train…but not everyone got off. From Aria (Montgomery) being abducted to Spencer (Troian Bellisario) getting attacked to Ashley (Laura Leighton) getting haunted from what appears to be the twin sister of Alison DiLaurentis (or Courtney DiLaurentis — who knows anymore, to be honest), Old Hallow’s Eve in Rosewood turned out to be a harrowing night for our favorite residents.
Sure, the costumes were fun and Adam Lambert’s performances were downright stellar — but the writers, cast, and crew took the storyline to a whole new level tonight — one that filled our PLL-loving hearts with great fear and dread. And the biggest shocker of the spooktacular special? There were four big moments to be exact: Garrett Reynolds (Yani Gellman) revealed that he saw Byron Montgomery (Chad Lowe) with Alison (Sasha Pieterse) the night she was killed. Garrett Reynolds was consequently murdered on the A Train. Alison’s body bag was retrieved from the ice bin storing the party beverages. (Color us grossed out!) Finally, just when we thought we had been scared plenty, the episode flashed back to the night Alison was killed and we witnessed a buried hand come shooting through the soil in the DiLaurentis’ backyard. (Could it have been Ali’s?!)
Here’s what down on “This Is A Dark Ride“:
Garrett: “I’m sorry. Honestly, I’m sorry.”
Spencer: “Sorry about what?”
Garrett: “I liked you. You were the one I really wanted to keep safe but I wasn’t strong enough. I thought that I had everything under control but I didn’t even know what the game was truly about. God, I was police officer and I ended up in a cell.
Spencer: “Did you kill Alison?”
Garrett: “I’m going to tell you everything I know and then I’m gone. Don’t try to find me. I’m not coming back. That’s the deal. Are we clear?”
Spencer: (nods) “Yes.”
Garrett: “Alright. The night of Alison’s death, all of us were up in her room with Ian. Your sister shows up.”
Spencer: “I know all this. I’ve seen the tape.”
Garrett: “But you don’t know what you don’t know. I took Jenna outside to let Ian and Melissa talk things over”
Spencer: “Where did you go with Jenna?”
Garrett: “Behind the DiLaurentis house.”
Spencer: “Where the ground was dug up?”
Garrett nods. He then proceeds to describe in great detail what he was up to the night Alison disappeared. While he and Jenna were strolling around the backyard, they run into Alison who, being the bully queen bee that she’s always been, mocks Jenna’s lack of sight and then shoves her onto the ground. Jenna grasps onto a nearby field hockey stick and tries to whack Alison but Garrett rips it from her hands. He glares at Alison and hesitates — and the two share a knowing look — he then lunges at her full-force in a way that seems a bit premeditated. However, eh doesn’t strike her at all. She ducks down and he takes his aggression out on a nearby tree as Jenna eggs him on. Alison keeps quiet and signals that Garrett should do the same. Jenna thus believes Garrett murdered Alison. The two of them scurry away hand in hand while Alison is left shaking with fear.
Flash forward to the end of the night in Garrett’s story. He returns to the yard and spots Alison in a heated conversation with a mystery guy. The man steps into the light and Garrett immediately recognizes him…it’s Aria’s dad, Bryon! Honestly, we’ve suspected him of being A a few times and even having weird liaisons with Alison but we digress. Nothing’s officially confirmed about why he was spotted arguing with her! (Suddenly though, Alison’s huge stash of cash begins to make a lot more sense…) Naturally, Garrett sneaks off before the two of them catch him spying. Unfortunately, that’s all Garrett reveals about that night because Spencer pauses him in order to go grab Aria so that he can tell her in person about what he saw — and then the A-team (or just Toby Cavanaugh because he’s BAMF like that) catches up with Garrett and kills him cold blood. And just as the night comes to a close viewers find out that whoever was buried alive under the gazebo soil in the DiLaurentis’ yard actually dug their way back up.
OMG! Crazy episode, right? What do you think of all the new secrets and clues that were revealed during the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode? Who do you think was buried in the yard? Did Garrett help Alison fake her own death? And do you believe Garrett Reynold’s version of the story or is covering up some terrifying detail?
