Cash strapped teachers. Birthday extravaganzas. Sleeping pill drama. Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 5 featured a series of unforgettable events — including Paige getting rowdy and passing out at Jenna Marshall’s big bash and Lucas getting aggressive with Aria in an attempt to reclaim the negatives on some photo equipment belonging to his former boss — and ended on a very eerie note no thanks to A rifling through Maya St. Germain’s purse. Top 5 OMG Moments and The Big Ta-da from PLL Episode 3.05:
Cirque du Freak: Jenna Marshall can see…and bitch is ready to celebrate! (Plus, it’s her birthday so she’s gotta go big!) She throws herself a Mad Hatter themed extravaganza so massive she has a photographer there to snap pics all night long and she even invites teachers (Ezra) and strangers (Nate). Let’s just say there were a lot of cupcakes in sight…cupcakes that intoxicated Paige McCullers had no problem dipping her fingers into them. (Unfortunately, they tasted like old pennies which was probably the alcohol talking.) The party was packed with drama (what else is new) — which included Jenna lying and calling the Liars her “friends” and Paige getting jealous over Emily and Nate’s budding friendship and passing out. (Also, was it just us or was Emily looking pretty pissed off that her douchebag of a boss made her miss her chance to see Katy Perry: Part of Me?)
One Hour Photo: Lucas is up to some seriously shady shit again. First off, Aria spots him banging on the door of his old job (exactly where she and Hanna had seen him lurking the night Emily went missing) and demanding his stuff back. Then, Emily overhears Jenna and her photographer Laurel talking about her terrible former assistant who she had to fire because he was caught developing his one pics. Apparently, Lucas didn’t take to well to being given the boot by Rosewood’s version of Annie Leibovitz and demanded his negatives back. So Aria takes matters into her own hands and basically charms her way into the new job opening at the photo center in town. She then conveniently breaks Laurel’s memory card and offers to run and grab a new one for her.. But — OMG — as she’s heading out of the shop in the dead of night Lucas pops up out of nowhere and demands to be let in. He’s not budging but luckily Ezra pulls up in his hot ride just in the nick of time….and Lucas jogs away. (Evidently, teachers with sweater vests are not that threatening.) What we and viewers worldwide would like to know though is what was on those negatives?!
Free Bird: Garrett Reynold’s mom is rushed to the ER so Rosewood’s most despised man is granted reprieve from prison in order to visit her. Spencer Hastings thinks something’s fishy — because his release is the same night at Jenna’s party — so she heads over to the hospital to keep tabs on the former cop who supposedly murdered her best friend and Emily’s one true love. While there, she makes some snarky comments about Garrett’s choice of flowers and runs into Detective Wilden who gets creepy with her (surprise surprise). Luckily, Emily heads over to the hospital with Maya’s cousin in tow and at the first sight of Garrett who goes in for a punch and causes a diversion — long enough for Spencer to sneak off into Mrs. Reynold’s room to snoop around. What does she find? Just like petrified Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, poor comatose Mrs. Reynolds hand (via hospital bracelet) is hiding an important clue: “April Rose has the proof.” Spencer’s eyes widen and she scurries off!
Rosewood’s Tiny Tim: Is Ezra Fitz poor? Judging by his lack of work and the sole lime in the fridge, Aria seems to think so. Thus, while at Lucky Leons, she treats her handsome boo to not one but two sandwiches (what a treat!) and keeps insisting they go to Jenna’s party rather than out to dinner. Also, she gets very sad and overwhelmed when Ezra surprises her with a vintage camera! (Yo, where did he get the moolah for such a luxurious gift?) However, after acting weird all night, Aria finally fesses up to Ezra that she basically pities him to which he responds, “I got a job now, honeybuns.” Well, Aria might seem satisfied with that response but Jason did just write out a check to $50,000 so….
Sleeping Beauty: Lots of clues emerge about the night that Emily got crunk and somehow wound up at Alison DiLaurentis’ empty gave with a shovel in tow. First, a depressed Hanna is coerced into volunteering at a rummage sale by her mom and, although she spends the majority of the time texting rather than sorting through clothes, she spots Emily’s jacket from that fateful evening in a pile of donated duds. WHAT? Who put that there? She sneakily scoops it up but Ashley’s potential new boo (they shared cookies so they’re practically married) spots her and shames her into coughing up the cash. Plus, after her dramatic drunk stint at Jenna’s party, Paige is rushed to the hospital where she discovers that Emily’s flash — the one she’s been a-sippin’ from the whole night — was laced with MZM pills. So what does that mean? That someone drugged Emily at Spencer’s house that night. OMG!
The Big Ta-Da: The biggest shocker of the night? Aria finding the sleeping pills used to drug Emily and Paige inside Lucas’ camera bag. Gasp! Oh, and A rummaging through Maya’s purse procuring a new bottle of MZM sleeping pills. Talk about no respect for the dead — but then again this sicko likes playing with body parts so what do you expect?
